Records that need a newer figure

A record needs a newer figure when the figure results read is older than its kind allows. A property or investment value, rent or living expense amount needs one after 12 months, a cash or super balance after six, and a fixed rate once its term has ended. It never stops a result. Setup, the record's own pages and the Monthly update The monthly email of how the position moved and which records need a newer figure. name it until a newer figure is recorded.

What this does for you

Which records need a newer figure, and why a result says its figure is old.

1. Which records need a newer figure, and when?

  • A property value or an investment value needs a newer figure 12 months after the latest value.
  • Rent needs one 12 months after the current rent started.
  • A living expense needs one 12 months after the current amount started.
  • A cash or super balance needs one six months after the latest balance.
  • A fixed rate needs one once the fixed term has ended and no new term is recorded.
  • A term deposit that rolls over needs its new rate once it matures.

The Mitchells recorded their property and investment values on 30 Sept 2026. From 1 Oct 2027, each property, the Share portfolio and the Fund share portfolio reads Value recorded 30 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.

Their living expense amounts started on 1 Sept 2026. In September 2027, each one reads Amount recorded 1 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.

No other record needs a newer figure because of its age. That covers personal asset values, loan balances, income amounts and SMSF member balances. Tax settings carry into every later year until a newer year replaces them.

2. What keeps a figure current?

A balance or value can stay current after its age limit. The app judges the figure results read, and that figure can be newer than the record under it.

  • A cash or super balance stays current while the recorded income, spending and repayments carry it forward. The page shows it as Estimated, with today's date.
  • A property value stays current while its PropRetire value is newer.

Say it is 5 May 2027. The Mitchell offset's latest balance is from 30 Sept 2026, more than six months old. Its page reads Estimated 5 May 2027, carried forward from that balance, so it does not need a newer figure.

On 5 Oct 2027 the schedules can no longer carry it. Its working says No estimated balance, as the recorded schedules cannot carry it forward. Other assets then reads Mitchell offset: Balance recorded 30 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.

3. Where does the reminder show?

Each record that needs a newer figure is one line, with the action that records it.

  • Setup: under What to record, in the section for that kind of record.
  • The list page for that kind, such as Properties, Other assets, Living expenses or Loans: under What to record, one line for each record.
  • A living expense's own page: under What to record.
  • A property's Monthly cashflow: a note on rent that needs a newer figure.

The line names the record and the date of the old figure, as in these from October 2027.

  • Armadale house: Value recorded 30 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.
  • Mitchell offset: Balance recorded 30 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.
  • Share portfolio: Value recorded 30 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.
  • Health insurance: Amount recorded 1 Sept 2026 needs a newer figure.

Rent reads the same way, from the day the current rent started. A fixed rate reads Fixed term ended, then its last day, and needs the new rate.

Every result still runs. The results that read the record use the old figure until a newer one is recorded. Setup's Results section still says Every result is ready.

In a Business account, the Clients list has Records to review. It counts each record that needs a newer figure, each term ending within 90 days, and records changed after a watched future cashflow projection was saved. Select the count to read each one. Records not yet entered are not counted. Setup lists those.

4. How do I fix one?

Select the action beside the line.

  • Value: Record value opens the property's page, with the value form open.
  • Balance: Record balance opens the asset's page, with the balance form open.
  • Rent: Record rent opens Edit property at How the property is used, where Add a later rent records the new rent.
  • Amount: Record a new amount opens the living expense's page, with the new amount form open.
  • Fixed rate: Record the loan term opens Edit loan, where Add term under Contract terms records the new rate.
  • Rate: Record the new rate opens the deposit's Edit, with its Term deposit section open.

Enter the newer figure and the date it applies from. Record a new amount on Health insurance, for example, says The current amount, $520 a month, applies until the day before the new one starts. The older figure stays in the record's history, and results read the new one from its date. The line goes once the newer figure is saved.

How each form works is in properties, other assets, income and living expenses and loans. The post the property records to gather lists the statements that hold these figures.

5. What ends within 90 days?

Setup also lists Ending within 90 days. It names a fixed rate, an interest only term or a lease whose last day falls in the next 90 days, with nothing newer recorded. Each row says what ends and when, such as Fixed rate ends on a date.

  • A fixed rate or an interest only term has Compare a refinance, which opens Refinance for that loan.
  • A lease has Record the new rent, which opens Edit property at How the property is used.

These are not out of date yet. A fixed rate needs a newer figure only once its term has ended.

6. What is the monthly update?

The monthly update is one email a month, about the month that has just ended. On a Personal account it is on from the start, and unticking Email me the monthly update, at the foot of Reports sent, turns it off. On a Business account it is off until you tick Email me the clients update on Clients. Each saves as you tick.

A Personal account's update, What moved in your portfolio this month, has:

  • Net position: up, down or steady.
  • How many records need a newer figure, or Every record is current.
  • Largest movements: the three largest, each with its figure in dollars.
  • Oldest records: up to five, each with what needs a newer figure, such as Value, Balance, Rent, Amount or Fixed rate. The rest are counted.
  • Ending within 90 days, when anything is.
  • PropRetire values that moved: each property whose estimated value went up or down over the month, with no amount. The property page shows the value and what it is built on.
  • Future cashflow projection, when a watched projection moved: the age its cash now lasts to and the record that moved it.

Its button is Open setup when a record needs a newer figure or a term ends soon, and Open Portfolio position otherwise. No update is sent in a month when none of these has anything to say.

A Business account's update has one line for each client that moved or needs records. It says whether the net position went up or down, how many records need a newer figure, any terms ending within 90 days and whether a watched future cashflow projection moved. It names no amounts. Its button is Open clients.

Turn off the monthly update, at the foot of each one, turns it off in one click with no sign-in, and the page it opens can turn it back on.
